A FUNAAB student who was abducted in Lagos has been found murdered, as authorities investigate the tragic incident and seek justice for the victim’s family.
According to reports, Christiana Idowu – a Federal University of Agriculture student based in Abeokuta, Ogun State – was abducted while travelling between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos. Tragically, it has been confirmed that she was subsequently killed by her captor(s).
On Thursday, our correspondent had a phone conversation with Ibrahim Adeyemi, the president of FUNAAB’s Student Union Government who confirmed this.
Adeyemi confirmed that the Union had received reports of her being killed by her abductor and would be addressing the issue shortly.
On August 26, a relative of the family disclosed that in exchange for freeing the student, the kidnappers were requesting N3 million as ransom.
According to the informant who spoke with our correspondent, Christiana was on her way from Itaoluwo community in Ikorodu to Yaba area of Lagos state where she was undertaking her industrial training at University of Lagos before being taken captive by kidnappers.
According to the source, after a period of being untraceable, the kidnappers contacted her family through her phone and demanded N3m payment as ransom in exchange for her freedom.
Despite the family’s numerous appeals, the abductors ultimately demanded a payment of N350,000 to be made into a designated account. Sadly, even after complying with this request and submitting the sum as instructed, they still refused to release her.
@letter_to_jack recently made a viral post on X revealing that through the BVN and account details utilized in retrieving ransom from the victim’s family, intelligence operatives were able to determine the abductor’s whereabouts.
According to the tweet, intelligence agents commenced an investigation on the 26th in order to unearth further information about the account number.
On the 29th, intelligence operatives received confirmation from the bank that the BVN associated with a concealed Betting account indeed belonged to its owner (whose name is currently undisclosed). This person also holds an account in Wema Bank (account number not revealed at this time).
After conducting a thorough investigation, it was discovered that he had successfully withdrawn N100,000 from the betting account prior to agents requesting the company to freeze it.
The operatives, on the other hand, were able to track down the suspected abductor to a place in Ikorodu, Lagos State. It is noteworthy that Christiana’s family also lives in this area.
Equipped with this knowledge, agents initiated an inquiry into the suspect who appeared to share a close bond with Christiannah Idowu. This was evident from their Instagram activity where they frequently commented on each other’s posts.
Having accessed the necessary information, operatives commenced tracing his cell phone usage and texts. Through this process of tracking, they ultimately traced his parent’s residence to a location in Ikorodu.
Attempts to elicit a response from the victim’s family were unsuccessful, as calls and messages directed towards their source remained unanswered at the time this report was being compiled.
Additionally, our correspondent tried contacting Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer via WhatsApp and phone calls. Despite reading the messages, he did not respond to any of them at the time of reporting.
