Fuel tanker bursts at military roadblock in Kogi, several people are thought dead
As a fuel tanker bursts at a military roadblock in Kogi, several people are thought dead.
A military roadblock placed at Ochadamu on the well-travelled Lokoja-Anyigba/Itobe Highway in the Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi resulted in a deadly accident that left several people dead.
Additionally, over 20 automobiles allegedly caught fire in the crash, according to SaharaReporters.
It was discovered that a dispute between the military personnel and the drivers of the gasoline tankers led to the disaster, which occurred on Thursday about 3 p.m.
An eyewitness claimed that the troops shot two tanker drivers, which infuriated the victims’ coworkers.
After that, they blocked the highway with a fuel-filled tanker.
A fast truck collided with the fuel tanker a short while later, causing it to explode.
This started an inferno that destroyed over 20 automobiles and resulted in several fatalities.
Although the event happened about 3 p.m., an eyewitness who talked to SaharaReporters said the fire was still burning when he was filming it around 5 p.m.
He continued, sounding frustrated, “Nobody has come to attempt anything, even to clear the way.
The Federal Road Safety Corps responded to the tragedy by stating that although its officers attended the accident scene, they were unable to determine the exact number of fatalities.
