Fuel subsidy: Tinubu to encounter national opposition – Sowore
Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, asserted that President Bola Tinubu will soon confront a national backlash over his “thoughtless petrol subsidy policy.”
In a tweet published on Sunday, Sowore alleged that “Tinubu was motivated by impunity when he boasted that he would remove subsidy regardless of protests.”
The statement followed the confusion and controversy surrounding the President’s recent announcement to eliminate fuel subsidies.
Sowore also asserted that the President had forgotten that many of the recent conflicts had their origins in nationwide revolts, particularly his control over Lagos.
“When @officialABAT boasted that he would remove the subsidy regardless of whether or not people protested, and regardless of how long the protest would last, he was speaking with a confidence fueled by the impunity he had practiced in Lagos since capturing the city in 1999.
“However, he neglected that his feudal dominion over Lagos was a particular target of many of the recent struggles that were anchored in recent revolts across Nigeria.
“He is about to confront a national backlash that will dispel any misgivings he may have about his recent thoughtless gasoline subsidy policy. Sri Lanka on my mind! #Revolutionnow,” he wrote on Twitter.
