Fuel Price Hike: Ajaero Condemns NNPCL’s Role in Determining Dangote Refinery’s Pricing

NLC President Joe Ajaero criticizes the NNPCL for its involvement in setting prices at the Dangote Refinery, following a sharp rise in fuel costs, and calls for transparency in the pricing process.

Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has questioned why the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is responsible for setting fuel prices at Dangote Refinery.

Ajaero expressed criticism towards NNPCL for raising the fuel pump price.

NNPCL raised the retail price of petrol in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from N897 to N1,030 per litre.

During a speech in Abuja on Wednesday, Ajaero stated: “While we are gathered here, they have once again raised the pump price of petroleum. So, what can be done in such situations?”

They anticipate that we will purchase it, despite our ongoing requests. For over a year now, we’ve been urging for the introduction of CNG as an alternative and for work to begin at the Port Harcourt refinery. There was an agreement on this between NLC, TUC, and the federal government.

We have learned that Dangote Refinery has started local production and prices are rising. The indicators provided to support deregulation have shown unfavorable results. As a private company, you are setting the prices.

From my perspective, unless there’s been a change with the CAC, NNPCL is currently a private company. Can this same NNPCL set prices for Dangote and other private companies? These are important issues that need answers.
