Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a stern warning against those who perceive his adherence to the presidential peace pact as a display of weakness, asserting that he is prepared to defy expectations.

Governor Fubara revealed that he has been bombarded with various comments in the media regarding the implementation of the peace initiative but has chosen to remain silent out of maturity and wisdom.

Setting the record straight for clarity, he emphasized that the agreement accepted during President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political crisis on October 30, 2023, was a political solution. Since then, he has diligently initiated the implementation of this agreement solely out of respect for President Tinubu. However, he cautioned that some political actors have misinterpreted his humility and compliance as a sign of weakness.

Expressing his stance, Governor Fubara stated, “Let me articulate this for the sake of clarity; the ongoing developments in our beloved State reflect my reverence for an elder. President Tinubu convened all parties to Abuja and reached a resolution that we are mandated to implement. This resolution, I am diligently executing. It does not constitute a constitutional mandate but rather a political solution to a prevailing issue.”

He continued, “I am undertaking this course of action out of utmost respect for Mr. President. However, let it be known that if my acceptance of this action is perceived as weakness, I am prepared to defy those expectations. I want this message to resonate with them.”

Governor Fubara’s remarks underline his commitment to upholding the agreement while also asserting his resolve and willingness to take decisive action if his adherence is misinterpreted or underestimated.
