PDP governors throw their support behind Fubara, asserting his control over the Rivers State structure, despite opposition from Wike. The NWC stands firm in its decision.
The governors who were elected based on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) manifesto have reiterated that they still acknowledge Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State as their party leader in the state.
It has been reported that Nyesom Wike, the former governor of the state, and Fubara are in a struggle for control over the party’s leadership.
The existing Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Wike cautioned PDP governors to avoid Rivers State. He made a threat that he will ignite fires in their respective states if they persistently back his estranged godson.
Despite Wike’s contentious remarks, Governor Bala Mohammed – the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum – declared that their backing for Fubara is unwavering.
When he received the delegation of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, Mohammed – who is currently serving as Governor of Bauchi State – spoke positively about the PDP governors’ decision.

Shortly after the meeting, Mohammed spoke to journalists and emphasized that as a leading member of PDP in Rivers state, Governor Fubara should have jurisdiction over the party’s organization.
The NWC delegation affirmed their support for the PDP Governors’ Forum’s decision to endorse Similaye Fubara as the leader of the party in Rivers State, according to his statement to reporters.
Governor Fubara leads the party in our state and we’ve all agreed on following due process. The decision is justified, as expected. In line with this, the PDP Governors Forum’s stance for Rivers State has garnered solid support from its delegation.
It is widely acknowledged that the FCT Minister and the current Governor of Rivers state have a mentor-mentee relationship. Our efforts are focused on facilitating their collaboration in a manner consistent with PDP’s reputation.
He said that while they cannot impose their views, they have mustered the bravery and determination to ensure proper actions are taken.
