Fubara Stopped Wike from Turning Rivers into His Private Estate – Ex-Gov Odili
Former Governor Peter Odili commends Fubara for standing firm against attempts by Wike to allegedly privatize Rivers State’s governance.
A former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, has stated that Governor Siminilayi Fubara boldly prevented Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from turning the state into his personal domain.
The former governor revealed that Governor Fubara showed remarkable courage in facing Wike’s aggressive and unnecessary attempt to seize control of Rivers State through political conflict.
Odili made this statement at a Christmas Ballard he organized in honor of Governor Fubara and his family.
He mentioned that his family chose to host the Rivers State Governor for an evening featuring various musical performances and other activities, as a gesture of appreciation for the strength and exceptional leadership qualities he has shown.
The former governor elaborated that it has now been more than a year since October 25, 2023, when an intense yet unnecessary existential battle was launched against Governor Fubara over the future of Rivers State.
He stated, “With unwavering determination, Governor Fubara faced the challenge head-on. He thwarted one man’s attempt to seize control of the State as if it were his own property, liberated the people of Rivers, stabilized governance, and restored happiness among civil servants and residents alike—much like before he left office in 2007.”
In response, Governor Fubara stated that God has demonstrated His worthiness as the Supreme Liberator of the State and its citizens by ensuring complete victory over both the political crisis and those responsible for it.
He mentioned that during the period of political antagonism, he gained a new perspective on leadership through God’s guidance. Additionally, with strong backing from the people of Rivers, he began to view the crisis not as an obstacle but as a crucial catalyst for effective governance.
“And it’s not only because I want to embrace it; every day, as I see the support from genuine Rivers people, I grow stronger in this pursuit.”
“It’s not just my own strength; it’s all of you who give me the power. Your encouragement, your hard work on my behalf, and your support are what empower me to stand up for each one of you.”
“However, we firmly believe that the true game changer, liberator, and warrior is still God Almighty. With Him on our side, victory is guaranteed,” he stated.
He believes that God governs the state’s affairs and assures everyone that as they anticipate a prosperous 2025, it will surpass past experiences.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving the state each year with notable progress, highlighting that the enthusiasm felt by Rivers residents during Christmas celebrations signals a promising future.
Governor Fubara, who pledged to persist in doing what is right, expressed his pleasure at seeing genuine leaders of the State and well-intentioned Rivers citizens remain steadfast on the correct side of history despite pressures to yield to tyranny and oppression.
