The murder of geography professor Samuel Paty in the Paris suburb of Eragny-sur-Oise in 2020 takes place three days before the anniversary of the stabbing. An 18-year-old Russian immigrant of Chechen ethnicity who stabbed Paty was later shot and killed by police.
The murderer of Paty had been radicalised into the doctrine of Islam and had wished to exact revenge for perceived slights against his faith.
