Four Nigerians Sentenced to Prison After Knife Fight in UK Court

A UK court has handed prison sentences to four Nigerians involved in a violent knife fight. The incident has raised concerns about rising violence. 

In the United Kingdom, four students from Nigeria have been sentenced for their roles in a violent incident involving knives and a baseball bat in Leicester.

The incident that took place on New Park Street in the early hours of November 4, 2021, resulted in one victim sustaining multiple stab wounds.

After an extensive investigation, the Leicester City Police were able to pinpoint the culprits using CCTV footage, phone tracking, and help from the public.

The trial, which lasted six weeks, wrapped up in October with the sentences being issued on November 14.

Last Thursday, a report on the police website outlined the outcome.

Destiny Ojo, a 21-year-old from Plumstead, London, received a seven-year sentence for charges including violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), and GBH with intent.

Habib Lawal, a 21-year-old resident of Bexley, London, received a five-year sentence for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), and GBH with intent.

Ridwanulahi Raheem, a 21-year-old from Lambeth, London, was sentenced to three years for violent disorder and possession of a bladed weapon.

Joshua Davies-Ero, a 21-year-old from Bexley in London, received a two-year sentence for violent disorder.

Justin Asamoah, a 22-year-old from Merton and the fifth defendant in the case, had previously admitted to possessing a bladed article. His sentencing is set for November 22.

A spokesperson for Leicester Police praised the public for their help during the investigation and emphasized the importance of addressing violent behavior to guarantee community safety.

Detective Constable Sean Downey remarked on the case, stating, “This incident highlights the serious risks associated with violent disorder. It’s fortunate that the injuries weren’t more severe or fatal; otherwise, this investigation could have taken a very different turn.”

He expressed gratitude to everyone who assisted with the investigation, stating that as a law enforcement body, their main focus is public safety. He emphasized that violent behavior will not be tolerated in communities and assured continued decisive action against offenders.
