Four individuals found guilty of armed robbery and murder in Ekiti have been sentenced to death by hanging

Four people have been found guilty of charges including armed robbery, murder, and conspiracy and given the death by hanging penalty by the High Court of Ekiti State, which is chaired by Justice L.O. Ogundana. The court was convened in Ado-Ekiti.

Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004; Sections 319 (1) & 320 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012; and any other offences committed are against these laws.

Ogunleye Sola, Adebayo Ebenezer, Lasisi Afeez, and Ojo Oba are the prisoners.

The same offenders were found guilty of the attempted murder charge and given a life improvement sentence by the court.

On May 29, 2017, the prisoners perpetrated the crimes in Oyan Orete Camp in Ijan-Ekiti, where the camp’s occupants were looted at gunpoint, Olasunkanmi Ramon was killed, and Alhaji Adeleye Usman was beaten by the gang with a cutlass on his head.

Julius Ajibare, the Director of Public Prosecutions, called five witnesses and submitted seven exhibits to support his prosecution of the case on behalf of Ekiti State.

The prisoners, Chris Omokhafe and Oluwaseun Oye Banji, spoke on behalf of their clients and called two additional witnesses.

In his wise decision, the Honourable Court declared that the Prosecution had established beyond a reasonable doubt each and every offence committed against the accused.

As a result, the judge found all of the defendants guilty and sentenced them to life in prison for the attempt to murder charge and death by hanging for the conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder offences.
