Four Boko Haram members who were plotting an attack on Atiku were apprehended

A suspected Boko Haram member was apprehended in Yola, Adamawa State, while planning an attack against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

The suspect was detained along with three others at Atiku’s villa in Yola and turned over to police.

Jubrila Mohammed, 29, of Damboa, Borno State, was identified as the suspect.

Mohammed stated that he and the others intended to strike Atiku-related organisations as well as certain critical Yola locations.

Mohammed Bulama, 28, Ibrahim Mohammed, 27, and Musa Mohammed, 26, are among the others.

According to a statement issued by Atiku’s Media Office, “Police arrest four suspects in plot to attack Atiku, others in Yola.”

“We wish to inform the Nigerian public that at approximately 9:44 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2023, a man seeking to confirm His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s residence in Yola was apprehended at the residence’s gate.”

“The man who was apprehended by security operatives at Atiku Abubakar’s residence was later handed over to the police.”

“During further interrogation by the police, the suspect identified himself as Jubrila Mohammed, 29, of Damboa, Borno State, and confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Damboa.”

“The suspect also told the police that he and his colleagues, who were later apprehended, planned to attack organisations associated with Atiku Abubakar as well as some other sensitive locations in Yola.”

“Military authorities have taken custody of all four suspects.”

“We commend the police for the work they have done and continue to do in this investigation.”

“We also request that other relevant security agencies stay on top of their responsibilities.”
