The Adamawa State Police Command has detained four individuals, three of whom are male hunters and one of whom is a woman, for allegedly torturing Abobo Nasani, 14, for allegedly stealing N21,000 in cash.

Nasanai, a resident of the Tasala community in the Demsa Local Government Area, was charged with stealing money from Ngularo Pemu, a member of the same community.

Pemu accused the youngster of stealing her money and told the hunters about him.

The local hunters Kanisi India, 35, Paul India, 25, Dickson Hani, 30, Pemu, and others are currently under investigation for reportedly beating a youngster while pouring petrol and the local gin Ogogoro on him.

According to information available, the alleged hunters tied Nasani to a tree, starved and tormented him for two days, and then dumped him by the side of the road in Demsa.

The hunters, who admitted to the police that they had mistreated the youngster, claimed that when the boy was taken to their office in Tasala, their initial inquiry suggested that he had in fact stolen the money but was hiding it somewhere.

Speaking about the incident, the boy’s father, Marvellous Tunoh, claimed that once the hunters were unable to connect his kid to the crime, they left him by the roadside.

According to SP Suleiman Nguroje, the state police public relations officer (PPRO), all the suspects have admitted their involvement in the incident, expressed regret, and pleaded for forgiveness.

Nguroje promised that the command will bring all the suspects before a judge for prosecution and said that the state commissioner of police, CP Afolabi Babatola, had been fast in ordering the arrest of the hunters after hearing Tunoh’s complaint.
