Forty Dead in Heavy Rains in Eastern Afghanistan

Taliban officials reported that no less than 40 individuals have lost their lives and almost 350 others sustained injuries due to the intense rainfall in eastern Afghanistan. Moreover, as per official media sources, a primary highway bus accident claimed at least 17 fatalities.

According to Sharafat Zaman Amar, who speaks for the Public Health Ministry, 347 individuals were taken to a regional hospital in Nangarhar from Jalalabad and nearby districts after being injured during Monday’s storm. Additionally, he confirmed that forty people had lost their lives in this unfortunate event.

According to Sediqullah Quraishi, a spokesperson for the province, five members of a single family lost their lives when their home’s roof caved in within Surkh Rod district. Four additional relatives were wounded during the event.

According to Quraishi, Nangarhar province suffered the destruction of approximately 400 homes and 60 electricity poles. Power outages were widespread and communication was limited in Jalalabad city. The extent of the damage is currently being evaluated by Quraishi.

Within an hour, a lot of damage occurred as per Abdul Wali who is aged 43. The strong winds were responsible for blowing everything up in the air followed by heavy rainfall as he stated. Additionally, his 4-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries according to him.

According to the World Food Program, more than 300 individuals lost their lives and several thousand homes were demolished due to unusually heavy rainfall in May. The province of Baghlan in the north was particularly affected by this tragic event.

According to individual reports, a bus accident occurred on the main highway connecting Kabul and Balkh in northern Baghlan province on Tuesday morning. The Taliban’s official news agency Bakhtar confirmed that 17 individuals lost their lives while another 34 sustained injuries due to the overturned vehicle.

It wasn’t immediately apparent what caused the accident, however in this country inadequate road conditions and negligent driving are frequently held accountable for such occurrences.
