The former vice president may be kicked out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to a former special adviser to Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential contender for 2023.
Umar Ardo, the aide, threatened to eject Atiku if he didn’t give up on his goal of becoming president. In a statement released yesterday, he said as much, adding that PDP governors had already abandoned Atiku.
Recall that Atiku criticised the Supreme Court’s decision upholding President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 2023 presidential contest.
“This aspect of the job is done,” but Atiku had pledged he was staying put. Ardo claimed that the PDP governors’ declaration that they are open to cooperating with President Bola Tinubu indicates their distancing from Atiku.

“It’s obvious that the honeymoon between the party’s 2023 presidential candidate and its governors is now over,” the speaker stated, referring to Atiku’s press conference last Monday regarding the outcome of the Supreme Court judgement and his position towards President Bola Tinubu’s Presidency in comparison to the PDP Governors’ Forum communiqué the following day following its meeting at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge.
“The chairman of the forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, praised President Tinubu’s leadership abilities and reaffirmed the PDP governors’ willingness to collaborate, support, and work with the Federal Government he leads in a separate speech to the press that followed the communiqué.
Nothing else is more clear than this to show how the two are heading their separate and distinct paths. Given these diametrically opposed viewpoints, the implosion is inevitable and will likely occur soon enough: Atiku will either give up on his presidential ambitions, quit the PDP, or be ejected from the organisation. My interpretation of the political crystal ball is that.
