Seun Kuti, a Grammy-nominated singer, recently shared how his father, the legendary Fela Kuti, left him with no inheritance due to his philanthropic nature.
Despite growing up with a daily allowance larger than his teacher’s salary, Seun revealed that his father used all the money meant for his inheritance to support the people in their Kalakuta commune.
According to Seun, when Fela was at the peak of his music career in Nigeria, their house was home to around 500 people.

Fela’s selfless acts extended to providing daily allowances and weekly salaries to nearly 1000 individuals in both Kalakuta and the African shrine.
These individuals included artisans from various professions, creating a diverse community within Kalakuta.
Seun reminisced about his childhood, mentioning that his pocket money during his primary school years in 1990 was N100 per day, which was more than his teacher’s salary.
Despite not receiving any inheritance, Seun Kuti continues to carry on his father’s legacy as a musician and activist, using his platform to advocate for social change and justice.
