Nze Chikwem Esiaga, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former House of Representatives member, expressed deep concern over the ongoing leadership crisis within the Abia State chapter of the party.

He highlighted that the internal divisions within the party have significantly diminished its chances of winning elections and forming a government in the state.

Esiaga called upon the national leadership of the APC to take decisive action by either establishing a caretaker committee or organizing fresh congresses at different levels of the party in Abia to prevent further fragmentation.

In a statement released to the press in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, the former federal lawmaker emphasized the urgent need for intervention to address the factionalism within the party.

He pointed out that the existence of multiple factions within the Abia APC is undeniable, citing the emergence of two chairmen following the state congress in 2021 as a key factor contributing to the crisis.

Esiaga recounted the sequence of events that led to the current situation, including the recognition of one chairman over another by the national caretaker committee, which exacerbated tensions and led to the formation of opposing factions.

He also mentioned the departure of one faction’s leader to the Labour Party, further complicating the internal dynamics of the party in Abia.

Despite efforts to address the issue, including appeals to Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Esiaga expressed disappointment at the lack of resolution and warned of the potential consequences of continued factionalism on the party’s electoral performance.

He stressed the importance of taking proactive measures, such as establishing a caretaker committee or conducting fresh congresses, to prevent the emergence of additional factions and restore unity within the Abia APC.
