Dr. Abubakar Hassan Augie, a former provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gusau, and his son were saved on Friday by Operation Hadarin Daji troops from local bandits.
While on normal patrol along Shemori – Yandoto Road at Marke General Area, the Sector 1 Operation Hadarin Daji forces stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB), Mada in Zamfara State encountered an unknown quantity of armed bandits.
The bandits and the army fought in a gunfight for many hours, and as a result of the troops’ superior firepower, the robbers fled in disorder into the nearby woodland.
According to a senior military source who asked to remain anonymous and who spoke to Channels Television, the army promptly pursued the bandits into the bush, forcing them to leave behind two civilians who were later retrieved unharmed.
Additionally, they retrieved two functioning motorcycles from the escaping thieves.
They were recognised as Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie, a former provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gusau, and his son, he claimed, “during an interview with the rescued persons.”
According to preliminary inquiry, the abductees were taken into the forest by armed bandits late last night before being rescued by forces who arrived in time, the official continued.
As a result, the victims have been joyfully reunited with their families, and the troops have continued to aggressively patrol and keep watch over the area.
