In Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, the governor installed 25 commissioners.
On Wednesday, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke swore in his new commissioners and other appointees.
Following their selection by the Osun State House of Assembly, the governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also disclosed the new commissioners’ portfolios.
Adeleke formally proclaimed himself the State Commissioner for Works, while Kola Adewusi was named the Commissioner for Sports and Special Needs.
Adeleke stated a merit-based approach was secured in the cabinet selection with a view to achieving high targets on good governance while speaking during the inauguration of the state’s new cabinet members held at the State Government Secretariat, Osogbo.
In order to live up to the high expectations that the state’s citizens have for his government, the governor charged the members to come up with fresh, original ideas that will restructure the state’s economy.
Some of the new cabinet members expressed the optimism that their selection, which includes technocrats, professionals, and young people drawn from all of the state’s senatorial districts, will assist forward the governor’s plan for uniform change in the state.
Two of Adeleke’s new picks were commissioners under the previous administration of All Progressives Congress (APC) ex-governor Rauf Aregbesola.
They are Biyi Odunlade and Kolapo Alimi.
Alimi was chosen by Adeleke to serve as the commissioner of information and public awareness. During the Aregbesola government, he served as commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy.
Odunlade was also given by Adeleke the position of Commissioner of Political Affairs and Inter-Governmental Affiliations. He served as Aregbesola’s Commissioner of Youth and Sports.
Although Aregbesola and the state’s most recent governor, Gboyega Oyetola, both belong to the ruling APC, they are political enemies. In 2018, Aregbesola gave Oyetola the reins, but the two later split.
Four years after Oyetola overwhelmingly defeated him in the same election, Adeleke defeated the incumbent (Oyetola) in the governor’s race on July 16, 2022.
Oyetola unsuccessfully appealed Adeleke’s victory in the July 16, 2022 governorship election to the Supreme Court.
