According to Alex Otti, several former Abia governors used manipulation to rise to power. Learn more about his allegations.

Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State has affirmed his commitment towards putting an end to corruption as well as divisive and clannish forms of governance in his administration.

He has stated that numerous leaders of the state in previous times obtained their positions not through the people’s popular choice, but rather via suspected electoral manipulation.

During the thanksgiving service for Mrs. Victoria Nkolika Onwuneme’s successful burial at Wesley Methodist Church in Umuekwule Afugiri, Umuahia, Governor Otti proclaimed that future leaders of Abia State would be selected based on popular vote according to the will of its citizens.

Without fear of contradiction, I confidently state that the Abia people have established their own government for the first time in several years – a fact I can attest to as one who hails from this region.

I am aware that many individuals who occupied the same position as me did not attain it through fair elections but by means of manipulation.

He declared that the people of Abia had become determined to declare “enough is enough” and take charge in selecting their own leaders moving forward.

Attending the Thanksgiving service alongside esteemed members of his cabinet and select legislators, the Governor expressed gratitude to the church for their prayers and unwavering support towards his administration.

According to him, his government was implementing effective governance and guaranteeing equal allocation of benefits of democracy across all regions in the state.

He went on to state that his administration did not prioritize one’s government of origin at the state or local level. Rather, they believed that anyone who resides and fulfills their tax obligations in Abia is considered an Abian.

Encouraging the congregation, Very Rev Ogbonnaya Orji urged them to root their faith in God during his sermon.
