The embattled former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, is set to be arraigned before Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, April 8.
Alongside Emefiele, Henry Omoile will also face charges related to abuse of office, accepting gratification, accepting gifts through agents, corruption, and fraudulent property receipt. Emefiele is accused of conferring corrupt advantage on his associates, which is in violation of the Corrupt Practices Act of 2000.
The charge sheet, filed by Mr Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) and marked ID/23787c/2024, alleges that Emefiele committed abuse of office between 2022 and 2023 in Lagos. One of the specific counts states that Emefiele allocated foreign exchange in the sum of $2.2 billion without bids, while another count alleges that he allocated $291 million without bids, both of which were prejudicial to the rights of Nigerians.
Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Omoile, is accused of acting as an agent and accepting $110,000 as a reward for Emefiele’s allocation of foreign exchange.
