The Tai Solarin University of Education instructor Dr. Balogun Olaniran has been charged by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) (TASUED).

A female undergrad is said to have been subjected to sexual and monetary demands from the department head of religious studies at the university in Ijagun, Ogun State.

On one count of breaching Section 8(1)(a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, Olaniran is on trial before Judge Osinuga of the High Court in Ijebu Ode.

The defendant reportedly promised to give the student N100,000 in exchange for sexual favours sometime between October and November 2021.

According to the ICPC’s testimony in court, Olaniran promised to change her marks “in classes with codes EDU 311 and EDU 312 from fail to pass.”

Judge Osinuga granted him bail in the amount of N500,000 with a surety in the same amount after he pleaded “not guilty” when the charge was read.

The judge also mandated that the surety present proof of their financial resources as well as three years of tax-clearance.

On the postponed date of May 11, 2023, the senior lecturer will return to court to begin the trial.
