Adesua Etomi-Wellington, a Nollywood actress, has admitted that she “friend-zoned” her singer husband Bankole Wellington, also known as Banky W, for a year and a half before finally saying yes to his marriage proposal.

On Sunday, the actor addressed during worship at the Waterbrooks Church in Lagos.

She said that she “friend-zoned” him in part because she had not received a message from God at the time.

I would like to suggest that friendship plays a very large part in setting the framework of your relationship, she continued. For a year and a half, I friend-blocked my husband [laughs].

I blocked his friends for two reasons. First of all, I wasn’t certain that God had spoken to me about whether or not this individual was truly my person. in fact, there are three. Second, getting hitched to Banky W. I thought, “My life is chaotic enough on my own; why would I now marry Banky?” Not at all.

“Thirdly, just attempting to form a friendship at the very least. And I genuinely think that the friendship we formed over the course of a year and a half has had a significant impact on how our relationship is now. My favourite is Banky W. He would still be my guy even if you took away the passion, sex, and other elements that comprise a marriage. My closest friend is Banky.

Banky W implied: “No, stop having sex. Don’t remove it [laughs].

According to OBASANJO NEWS24, Banky W and Adesua Etomi were married on November 19, 2017, in a lavish ceremony after charming moviegoers with their on-screen chemistry in “The Wedding Party.” Hazaiah, their first child, was born in January 2021.
