At a White House celebration, however, the daughter of the US secretary of state donned an attire the colour of the Ukrainian flag.
When US Secretary of State Antony Blinken decided to dress his children in ‘pro-Ukrainian’ costumes to go to President Joe Biden’s customary White House Halloween celebration on Monday, it caused quite a stir.
The senior diplomat and his spouse didn’t dress up for the event, but they did dress their son in green sweatshirt and khaki trousers that were almost exactly like those that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky frequently wears.
Their daughter, on the other hand, appeared to be trying to replicate a Ukrainian flag with her blue outfit and yellow shawl.
When he gave the kids candy, President Joe Biden didn’t have a costume either. On the other hand, First Lady Jill Biden was decked up like a cat.
The Blinkens’ choice to dress their children as Ukrainian emblems sparked mixed reactions online. Some called it “cute” and suggested that the US was supporting Kiev unreservedly, while others called it “creepy” and a “clown show,” pointing out the absurdity of dressing up as Zelensky to beg for sweets.

One person commented on X (previously Twitter) that “dressing up like Zelensky and going door to door to beg for handouts is pretty fitting.”
Zelensky himself has reportedly said that he feels “betrayed” by his Western supporters and that his prolonged confrontation with Russia has “become like a show” for the Western audience, according to a recent Time magazine piece.
Zelensky remarked, “The scariest thing is that part of the world got used to the war in Ukraine.” “The weariness of battle surges forward in waves. It is evident in both Europe and the United States. As they grow a little weary, we observe that it turns into a show for them: “I can’t watch this rerun for the tenth time.”
Meanwhile, senior Kiev officials allegedly informed Time that Zelensky has turned irrational and that his “stubbornness” and unwavering will to “defeat” Russia on the battlefield have crossed the line into “messianic.”
“He is fooling himself. We have no other options. We’re not triumphant. But try telling him that,” one official said, on condition of anonymity.
