Two suspects have been remanded in a detention facility after reportedly participating in the lynching of 25-year-old motorist Tope Olorunfemi in Ondo State.

A Magistrate Court in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, remanded the suspects, Victor Amos, 30, and Pelumi Farotimi, 42, in the Olokuta Correctional Center after they were charged with involvement in the death of the deceased, who was allegedly an internet fraudster known as Yahoo boy.

After his car ran over some other drivers on Ijoka Road on Easter Monday, the deceased was killed by an enraged crowd.

According to the charge, the suspects and other people still at large are accused of lynching, beating, and stone-pelting the victim on April 10, 2023, at 9 p.m.

According to the police, sections 324, 316(1), and 451(6)(J) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 2, Laws of Ondo State, were broken.

Three of the offenders who were charged in front of an Akure Chief Magistrate Court were, however, given bail.

Boboye Ismaila, Samuel Olatunji, and Nurudeen Kumuteyi were released on bail with two sureties totaling N500,000.

According to Magistrate Musa Al-Yunus, the sureties were required to own landed property that was under the court’s jurisdiction.

Murder and arson were two of the three felonies on which the defendants were indicted.

During the presentation of a medical report before the court, the prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, disclosed that the deceased’s death was brought on by a severe head injury sustained during the mob attack.

Akintimehin asked the court to ignore the counter-affidavits provided by the defense lawyers.

The first and third defendants were the two suspects, and the magistrate noted in his decision that there were likely grounds to remand them.

The trial was continued to August 8, 2023.
