The Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, Engr. (Mrs.) O.I. Kesha, said on Thursday that the shutdown will begin on Sunday, July 23, 2023, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing.
This is due to damage that was discovered on a few bridge members that required immediate attention.
“It should be noted that any further delay in the repairs and replacement of some of these bridge members could undermine the integrity & structural stability of the entire bridge and the consequence of this can be better imagined,” the statement continued.
However, it should be noted that the Federal Controller of Works, Engr. (Mrs.) Olukorede Kesha, and the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced during the opening of the Apongbon section of the Bridge that intermittent closures will be carried out as the maintenance work progresses.
The purpose of this closure is to give the contractor, Messrs Buildwell Plants & Equipment Ind. Ltd, time to make the required repairs in order to restore the integrity of the bridge within the allotted time period.
While there will be a service lane heading to Iponri, there are also some alternate routes accessible for drivers travelling the road from Western Avenue and its surroundings.
“Motorists are urged to work with the traffic-management team that has been dispatched to control traffic on the roadway. I appreciate your usual cooperation.
