Celebrity food critic Opeyemi Famakin has shared the reason behind his decision to stop discussing his finances.

He mentioned that he got an N80 million tax bill just hours after disclosing his income in an interview.

Famakin revealed that the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) reached out to him via email in under 48 hours following the disclosure.

In his most recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, he shared this insight while discussing his financial journey as a food critic.

Famakin recounted the unexpected encounter and its timing, implying that his public statement attracted attention from the tax authority.

Two days after I brought up my finances, LIRS emailed me with a bill for N80 million. Surprisingly, I paid it without issue; it all seemed unreal.

“I’ve decided not to discuss my finances anymore. Despite mentioning it as ‘allegedly,’ they declined, so let’s leave that topic. I’m now a proud taxpayer.”
