Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other members of the National Working Committee called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to call off the presidential election scheduled for February 25 and hold a new, highly credible election on Monday.

This was said by Ayu as she delivered a letter of party protest to INEC in Abuja.

Recall that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Tinubu was proclaimed the winner of the presidential election by INEC.

Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party were defeated by Tinubu in the race for the presidency.

Since then, the former governor of Lagos State has received his Certificate of Return.

The protest letter to INEC, addressed to the Commission Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, is presented by the PDP’s thronging members on behalf of the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ayu added.

“We don’t accept the sham of what has been announced and what has been presented to the Nigerian people as election.

“We there call on INEC to not only annul the election but to re-conduct an election that will be highly credible to Nigerians and the rest of the world,” they said.

When Mr. Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, received the letter, he praised the PDP for holding a peaceful demonstration.

Okoye pledged to present the letter to the proper parties so that required action could be taken.

“I received this letter on the commission’s behalf; if there are any remedial issues, we’ll take care of those remedial issues.

This commission serves the people of Nigeria. We support the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he declared.
