The chairmen of the 44 Local Government Areas in Kano State have taken legal action against the state government’s plan to construct two flyovers in the city.
They filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja, contesting the state’s use of 70% of their joint account funds for the flyover projects.
The plaintiffs, which include the local government councils and the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State chapter, are seeking a court order to prevent the state government from using their funds. However, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defended the state government’s decision, stating that using the joint account for financing large-scale projects has been a tradition.
He emphasized the importance of the flyover projects in improving socio-economic activities and addressing traffic congestion in the state.
