A devastating flood in Niger has swept away seven individuals, causing significant loss and highlighting the urgent need for disaster response and relief efforts.

Seven people have been reported missing in the Magama and Mashegu Local Government Areas (LGAs) by Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) following a severe flood that occurred.

On early Friday, flooding caused the destruction of more than 89 houses and inflicted substantial harm on farmlands.

The Director-General of NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, has released a statement in Minna announcing that the destructive flood was caused by heavy rainfall which started at 2 a.m. and persisted until noon.

Not only did the downpour sweep away three vehicles, but it also caused hundreds of hectares of farmland to be submerged.

Baba-Arah clarified that Sabon Pegi in Mashegu and Nassarawa in Magama were among the communities significantly affected by the flood.

The writer also observed that the search and rescue groups, composed of NSEMA personnel as well as volunteers, are presently engaged in finding the individuals who went missing.

As the state deals with the aftermath of flooding, attempts are still being made to aid those impacted by this disaster.
