Abdulmalik Junaidu, age 5, was killed by a thunderstorm in the Nasarawa Yanlemu community in the Bakori LGA of Katsina State on Monday evening around 7 p.m.

Malam Junaidu Gide, the father of the decedent, stated, “It was sprinkling when I left work at the parking lot following Maghrib prayers.

“When the downpour stopped, I went home and called for my children. The mother informed me that the family attended the mosque.

“A few minutes later, the deceased’s older brother, Abdulmajid, rushed home in shock to report that something weighty had struck them on the way home and that his brother was sprawled on the road.

“Upon our arrival, I transported him to the Funtua General Hospital, where his death was confirmed,”

The father stated that the boy’s corpse was burned from the sternum down and that, due to the night and the rain, they interred Abdulmalik on Tuesday morning according to Islamic customs.

Last Monday, from their region up to Funtua, there were severe thunderstorms, he said, adding that “most people were not surprised to hear that my son had been injured.”
