A deadly ambush in Mali claims the lives of five Russian Wagner mercenaries, highlighting ongoing instability in the region.
At least five Russian Wagner mercenaries were killed on Thursday in a deadly ambush in Mali.
As reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama, militants from the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) ambushed mercenaries during their patrol near Djiguibombo, located between Bandiagara and Bankass in Mali’s Mopti region.
According to Zagazola, the ambush took place on the crucial “Snake Road” and led to two light armored vehicles being captured by the attackers.
The JNIM has taken responsibility for the attack and released disturbing images and videos of the aftermath, highlighting their active presence in the region.
