The Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited was involved in a fire, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on Friday.
However, it added that the incident would not have an impact on the refinery’s ongoing restoration because the fire was contained.
The national oil company made the announcement in a tweet with the heading “Minor fire outbreak at Warri refinery contained” on X (previously Twitter).
According to the company, there was a minor fire incident at the cooling tower of Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited this afternoon at around 15:02.

“The delivery timetable for the refinery rehabilitation project will not be impacted by the fire that broke out as a result of ongoing welding activity at the top of the cooling tower.
At around 15:30, NNPC Limited safety officers at the refinery acted quickly to put out the fire; since then, normalcy has been restored.
The NNPCL declared that it would keep up the highest safety standards in all commercial dealings.
The Warri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna refineries in Nigeria are managed by NNPCL. Although they are all being renovated, none of the facilities are currently refining crude.
