The last shipment of equipment for the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, or BVAS, has been sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
Mr. Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, said on Wednesday that the machines were given to INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, national commissioners, and top officials on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said that people from the Nigerian Customs Service, the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, and airport security were ready to greet the INEC delegation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
“The Commission established four airport hubs in Abuja, Kano, Lagos, and Port Harcourt to aid in the efficient delivery of the devices.”
Before the elections in 2023, “a number of flights have taken the BVAS to the designated airports so that it can be sent to the states of the federation,” Okoye told reporters.

He went on to say that with the last shipment’s arrival in Abuja on Tuesday, INEC had finally gotten the right number of BVAS machines for all polling places in the country.
He said that the shipment had extra supplies that could help in a crisis.
Okoye was thankful that all Nigerians supported INEC’s plan to use technology to make the 2023 general elections free, fair, and open to everyone.
“He also admitted that, on more than one occasion, they stopped the Gusau-Tsafe-Yankara Road and took an unknown number of people hostage, taking them to their enclave where their families paid ransom before they were set free,” the statement said.
