Before the bidding process closed on Saturday, FIFA revealed that three bids had been submitted “across three confederations” to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027.
Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany have submitted a combined bid from Europe, and shortly before the deadline on Friday, Mexico and the United States have paired up to submit a single bid.
The only nation with a single bid is Brazil.
“Until releasing its conclusions in a bid evaluation report in May 2024, FIFA will now conduct a comprehensive evaluation process, including on-site inspection visits that are scheduled to get underway in February 2024,” the organisation said in a statement.
The ultimate choice will be decided by an open vote on May 17, 2024, during the FIFA Congress in Bangkok.
With the intention of submitting a candidature, South Africa withdrew this month, citing their federation’s preference “to present a well-prepared bid for 2031.”
Germany hosted the 2011 World Cup, while the United States hosted the competition independently in 1999 and 2003.
Spain defeated England in the final of the most recent Women’s World Cup, which was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in July and August of this year.
