FG’s Support for Deposed Emir’s Return Aimed at Destabilizing Kano, Says Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his belief that the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, could not have returned to the ancient city without the support of the Federal Government. In a statement, Atiku, who is also the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), cautioned against any actions that could disrupt the peace in Kano State.
He criticized the deployment of soldiers by the Federal Government in Kano, stating that it not only undermines the peace and security of the state but also violates the amended 1999 Constitution.
Atiku highlighted that the Kano State House of Assembly had passed the amended Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 in accordance with the constitution, and the Governor of Kano State had signed it into law.
This law repealed the previous version that had divided the ancient Kano Emirate into five. Atiku expressed surprise at the arrival of the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, at the Nasarawa Palace, backed by federal support, while the reappointed Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was at his main residence.
He emphasized that Kano State has a long history of peace and harmony, and any attempts to disrupt this would be met with resistance.
