FG will begin conditional cash transfers to 15 million households on October 17th – Betta Edu

On October 17, 2023, the Federal Government will begin implementing the conditional cash transfer policy for 15 million households, according to Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu.

She remarked when she was interviewed for Sunday Politics on Channels Television months after the federal government stopped providing petroleum subsidies.

The minister stated, “With the President’s approval, which we hope to receive this week, we will officially launch the conditional cash transfer to 15 million households in Nigeria on October 17th.”

We are conducting a verification exercise as we speak. Every state can attest to the fact that we have personnel working with the state cash transfer office as well as the governors who serve as the steering committee’s chairpersons and a number of other individuals, she said.

The minister continued, “All of this is to ensure that those on the national social register are actually Nigerians who fall [spent] under the under $1.95 a day [area] and they deserve to get it.

Mrs. Betta stated that the verification effort is to clean up the record, even though she acknowledged that some people on the registry may have passed away or climbed the economic ladder.

Two things, then. To begin with, the 36-year-old stated, “We are currently on the ground cleaning up that data and conducting a thorough verification. We are juxtaposing both the BVN, NIM, and the rest of it to identify these folks and ensure we are dealing with genuine individuals.

“Of course, there are biometrics involved as well, and the head of the home is photographed as well as the entire household so that it can be located. Each of these residences has a number on it so that others can visit them and compare them to the register.
