The recent situation involving Israel and the militant Palestinian organisation Hamas has been urged for to deescalate by the federal government of Nigeria.
The federal government urged both sides to use caution and put the protection of civilians first in a statement signed by Yusuf Tuggar, minister of foreign affairs.
In what has been referred to as an unprecedented attack, the violent Hamas faction penetrated Israel in the early hours of Saturday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has since referred to the invasion as an act of war.
According to the most recent statistics, the crisis has claimed more than 100 Israeli lives, with more than 200 of those deaths coming from Israeli retaliation attacks in Gaza.
The statement states, “The federal government of Nigeria calls for a de-escalation and ceasefire and expresses its grave concern over the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Hamas in the early hours of Saturday, October 7, 2023.”
The current escalation’s loop of violence and retribution only helps to prolong a never-ending cycle of suffering for the civilian population, who bears the brunt of every conflict.
“Therefore, we demand that the conflict be resolved peacefully through dialogue.”
