According to the Federal Government’s “No Work, No Pay” policy, lecturers will not be compensated for work that is not completed as required.
Malam Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, made this statement in response to the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) complaint on the prorated October salary payment.
When Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, intervened, ASUU, which had begun its strike in February, ended it.
After the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, State House media interviewed the minister.
Adamu said that the federal government held the view that the Lecturers “would not be compensated for job not done.”
The minister also addressed the claim made by Professor Emmanuel Osodoke, President of ASUU, that paying academics on a pro-rata basis was a ruse to turn them into casual employees.
Nobody may hire university professors as hourly labor, he declared.
Adamu said he was unaware that the academics were contemplating a one-day strike in response to the government’s decision.
