She claimed that among other factors, the action was brought about by recent heavy traffic on the Lagos-Shagamu route “in the last couple of days” and unfavorable weather.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project has been put on hold by the Federal Government in order to facilitate traffic during this week’s Eid el-Kabir celebrations.
The construction work being done by Julius Berger is expected to begin on Monday, July 3, after the hiatus, which will last from Tuesday, June 27, through Sunday, July 2.
Road users were urged to plan their trips by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, in an interview with Channels Television.
She claims that the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, has made the decision to pay attention to requests from individuals asking for work to be suspended during the holiday season so that people can travel.
“Then we noticed that the bottleneck is really slowing down the pace of building work because it is not even allowing materials to get on site as and when due. In light of everything, we’ve decided to start over and ask the contractor to halt work for this time, she stated.
The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (Works Sector) emphasized in a separate statement on Monday that building on the busy roadway would be halted from Tuesday, June 27, to Sunday, July 2.
She stated that the recent strong traffic flow on the Lagos-Shagamu route “in the last couple of days,” unfavorable weather, the impending Eid Kabir, and the recommendation of the traffic management team sent to monitor traffic-related issues on the project were the driving forces behind the decision.
Kesha continued, “Construction works will restart by Monday, July 3, 2023.
