The FG is selling 50kg rice at N40,000, with specific requirements for buyers. Learn the details to secure your purchase.

To purchase subsidized rice, Nigerians are required to verify their National Identification Number (NIN), as stated by the announcement made by the Federal Government.

The distribution of 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice has been initiated by the government at a discounted rate of N40,000 per 50kg bag.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, stressed that the rice sale launch in Abuja was just a start as they plan to implement this program across the country.

Kyari recognized the importance of acting promptly given the prevalent economic struggles in the nation and acknowledged that marketing a fundamental food item at this moment comes with its own set of difficulties.

Kyari announced that a strong system has been established by the government to prevent unscrupulous individuals from purchasing more than one bag, in order to maintain transparency. He elaborated on how buyer verification via NIN and phone numbers will help extend rice distribution across the country.

Kyari appealed to the citizens for their cooperation towards government agencies involved in distributing 30,000 metric tonnes of rice (which equates to approximately 1,000 trucks), highlighting that it will help stabilize the market prices of food items including rice.

The process of procuring rice was elucidated by Dr. Haruna Sule, who serves as the Director for Strategic Grains Reserve in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Government workers have been authorized to buy rice from specific locations using their IPPIS or any other valid identification card accepted by authorities concerned after scrutiny.

Electronic payments will be effectuated upon verification and a code-embedded receipt issued to facilitate collection of purchased rice stocks at an appropriate time.

Several sales points will be set up throughout Abuja, with the intention of distributing the rice until stocks run out.
