NiMet staff are finally paid their 45-month minimum wage arrears, thanks to the Federal Government’s intervention.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) staff have been paid their 45-month minimum wage arrears by the Federal Government (FG).
The agency’s employees felt relieved when the debt that had been building up between 2019 and 2022 was finally settled.
The payment authorization made by President Bola Tinubu was acknowledged with appreciation by Professor Charles Anosike, the Director-General of NiMet.
In a statement issued on Monday, he expressed admiration for the president’s gesture in settling arrears that existed before his administration and regarded it as evidence of Tinubu’s dedication to workers’ well-being.

Anosike expressed his gratitude to Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, as well as the chairmen and members of both House of Representatives and Senate Committees on Aviation for their efforts in making the payment possible.
He encouraged NiMet employees and unions to demonstrate appreciation by renewing their commitment towards fulfilling their responsibilities diligently.
Similarly, the Joint Action Committee (NJAC) of NiMet Unions conveyed their gratitude to President Tinubu and all those who aided in addressing the matter.
NJAC released a joint statement signed by Secretary Okechukwu Nwokoro and NiMet branch’s SSASCGOC President acknowledging that remuneration had boosted staff morale and ensured financial stability.
The settlement of outstanding payments was a principal concern for NiMet, and earlier in the year, it had caused escalating tensions resulting in potential industrial action.
Yet with assistance from aviation committees within the National Assembly came resolution – prompting suspension of planned strikes followed by eventual payment.
Motivated by the government’s actions in addressing their financial concerns, the unions reiterated their dedication to providing exceptional meteorological services.
