Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is represented by Aloy Ejimakor, a special counsel, who has claimed that his client cannot be held accountable.
Ejimakor was responding to the revised accusations made against Kanu by the Federal Government.
The IPOB leader was charged with seven counts of terrorism by the Nigerian government on Friday.
The Federal Government claimed in a broadcast that Kanu had given a lethal warning, advising anybody who disobeyed IPOB’s instruction to stay at home in the South-East to make a will.
The government said that Kanu made many broadcasts in 2018 that encouraged his followers to murder security personnel and their families.
In response, Ejimakor criticized the Federal Government for accusing Kanu of recycling.
Ejimakor said in a series of tweets that Kanu cannot be charged due to the extraordinary rendition and rulings from the Federal High Court in Umuahia and Abuja Appeal Court.
“Recycling Charges are not the problem,” he wrote. Any prosecutor can play about with charges, but thanks to the extraordinary rendition and the rulings in Abuja and Umuahia, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will never face charges. Never!
“The Presidency should know that the Stay granted by the Court of Appeal did not stop compliance with the 2018 continental tribunal Decision, the UN Opinion, and the Umuahia Federal High Court Judgment, which are all in favor of freeing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from custody & no new charges,” the statement reads.
As the FG revises the terrorist allegations against the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu’s attorney responds.
