The Federal Government has dismissed any concerns about the security of Nigerians in Libya after a recent Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruling that favored Nigeria.
The CAF awarded points to the Nigerian senior men’s football team, the Super Eagles, and fined Libya for allegedly mistreating the Nigerian team during a Nations Cup Qualifying Match.
After the ruling, reports surfaced indicating that Nigerians were experiencing various forms of harassment.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that Nigerians are secure in Libya.
The ministry reiterated the government’s dedication to safeguarding its citizens in Libya.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to inform that, at the time of this statement, Nigerians in Libya are conducting their daily activities without any harassment from Libyan authorities. This follows a verdict by the Confederation of African Football, which held the Libyan Football Association accountable for mistreating Nigerian players and officials during a Nations Cup Qualifying Match in Libya.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to emphasize that ensuring the well-being of Nigerian citizens worldwide remains a top priority for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and it will consistently work towards protecting them,” the statement said.
