In a conversation with one of our reporters, Sambo Danchadi, the Commissioner for Information stated that the Sokoto state government was tirelessly collaborating with an emergency management agency to ensure a secure atmosphere.

The Director of Relief and Rehabilitation at the Sokoto Emergency Management Agency, Mustapha Umar also stated that sensitisation and awareness programmes have been conducted in areas prone to floods.

He stated that they had an evacuation plan in place, as the National Emergency Management Agency had requested them to submit their strategy and specified areas for flood situations. He further added that they have consolidated and submitted all the required details to authorities already.

He added, “We have made significant efforts to share information and raise awareness about the dangers of flooding among the people.”

Additionally, the efforts to clear natural drains in Yenagoa and surrounding areas will persist as per the Bayelsa State Directorate of Flood and Erosion Control’s commitment towards reducing the effects caused by this year’s flood.
