The FG Declares Holidays For Christmas And New Year’s Celebrations
To coincide with Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, the Federal Government has designated December 26th and 27th, as well as January 2nd, 2023, as public holidays.
The interior minister, Rauf Aregbesola, confirmed this in a statement released on Friday and signed by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Belgore Shuaib.
The statement also stated that the public holidays would be used to honor Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day in that sequence.
Aregbesola asked Christians to celebrate by imitating Jesus and reflecting on his teachings.
Be like Christ.
As His birth denotes, he said, “we must internalize the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings on humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness.”
This will be the most effective approach to honoring Christ’s birth and portraying him.
He also urged them to resist being prodded toward chaos by those with criminal intentions.
The former governor urged them to “moderately celebrate the holiday, avoid the dissemination of fake news, and be responsible,” saying, “This demands conscious responsibility and discipline on the part of all.” Consider it a duty; you are a citizen of your country.
The statement continued, “The Minister further assures that the government has put in place effective measures for the security of lives and property and anticipates that Nigerians will support the efforts of security agencies by disseminating helpful information that will help them in the discharge of their duties.”
“Aregbesola urges all citizens to maintain their concentration and expresses hope that 2023 will be a better year for all of us.
“He wishes everyone in Nigeria a joyous Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year’s celebration,” it reads.
