FG carries out evacuation of 161 Nigerian migrants stranded in Libya

On Tuesday, the Federal Government evacuated 161 Nigerian migrants who were stuck in Libya in cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

The evacuees are anticipated to land at Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos later on Tuesday, having taken a chartered flight from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli.

There are sixteen children, eight babies, 100 adult females, and 37 adult males among the evacuees.

According to Musa, “officials will greet them upon arrival to assist with their resettlement and reintegration into society.”

Beyond repatriation, he continued, the Mission had been working with relevant agencies to raise Nigerians’ awareness of the dangers of irregular migration, which included forced labour, prostitution, and enslavement.

Musa declared that no Nigerian would be left stranded or forgotten in Libyan detention facilities, and that the Federal Government would not back down in its efforts. In NAN
