FG Announces New Minimum Wage to Take Effect from May 1, 2024

Despite the fact that the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage has not yet concluded its discussions, the federal government has provided reassurance to workers that they will not face any financial loss.

The Minister of State Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, made this announcement during the May Day celebration at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

She emphasized that even though the new minimum wage was not available before May 1, extensive consultations are underway to ensure its prompt release.

According to The Nation, Joe Ajaero, the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), proposed a living wage of N615,000 for workers.

This suggestion highlights the ongoing discussions and considerations surrounding the national minimum wage.

As the government continues to engage in consultations, it aims to address the needs and concerns of workers while ensuring a fair and sustainable wage structure.
