The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that the forthcoming national ID card will be distributed to applicants through their banking institutions.
NIMC has confirmed that it is collaborating with the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) to ensure the efficient delivery of these identification cards to the applicants.
According to the agency’s recent update, the ID cards will be issued by the applicants’ respective banks in accordance with the established procedures for issuing debit and credit cards.
Applicants are advised to request their cards, along with their National Identification Number (NIN), through the self-service online portal, NIMC offices, or their own banks.
The national ID card will be supported by the AFRIGO card scheme, a local initiative powered by NIBSS, as stated by NIMC.
Holders of the card will have the option to collect it from a designated center or have it delivered to a specified location, with any additional costs incurred being the responsibility of the applicants, as outlined in the update.
