The Federal High Court has introduced a new electronic affidavit system, streamlining the process and enhancing efficiency in legal proceedings.
The electronic affidavit (e-affidavit) system has been introduced by the Federal High Court (FHC), with the goal of providing advantages to litigants and other users.
In June, FHC Chief Judge John Tsoho introduced a new system that conforms with global best practices as part of the court’s practice directions.
On Friday, Godwin Longe, the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Lagos FHC stated during a facility inspection that non-case-related affidavits like for loss of items, age declarations and name changes are what e-affidavit system is intended for.

Nevertheless, the distinctive characteristics of affidavits necessitate that they be handled manually when submitted as evidence in legal cases.
Longe highlighted that certain affidavit services no longer require physical presence in court with the implementation of new technology.
The chief of the ICT department at court, Agwu Charles, elaborated that individuals can utilize portal.fhc.gov.ng to gain entry into the system and finish filing affidavits via online means following provided instructions.
The new innovation is anticipated to enhance efficiency and simplify the procedure for individuals seeking affidavits that are not related to a particular case.
