The Federal Government announced on Monday that it will conduct a comprehensive census of all schools in the country.

The purpose of this census is to gather data that will help address the challenges faced by the education sector.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, emphasized the importance of this data in advising state governments on the necessary actions to be taken.
The government plans to partner with an IT firm to generate data on all schools in Nigeria, including information on teachers, students, learning trends, and school infrastructure.
This exercise will greatly contribute to evidence-based planning, policy formulation, and decision-making.
The Minister also expressed concern about the learning crisis in the country, highlighting the need to improve basic skills among students.
The capacity-building workshop held for ministry officials and agencies aims to enhance their ability to track, collate, and report progress in implementing the Ministerial Deliverables and the Education Sector Roadmap.
The Minister urged participants to align their programs and activities with the goals of these initiatives.
